A Familiar Face

Just about 16 hours after I posted this I got the call:

Although Terence progressed very well learning all the required behaviors: guide around this, stop at that curb, sit, down, come, stay - he was released from Guide Dog training for showing fearful behavior around loud noises and big trucks, among other things. Guide Dogs need to be confident and fearless, and when it came down to it, Terence showed his trainers it wasn’t the line of work for him and he was released from guide dog training.

Yes I am disappointed. But I’m also proud of the wonderful dog he has become, how far he got, and how many lives he touched and people he educated about blindness and guide dogs in the process.

I am fostering Terence for a few weeks until his forever home is ready for him. He was confused for the first couple days

but has settled back in quickly

And seems just fine with the job requirements of his new line of work, Best Pet in the World:

and his favorite activity, sleeping on the bed:

It’s not such a bad life, now is it?
